Terrariums by Twig.

Guys are very hard to shop for. According to every magazine published in the last decade, I would get away with something wine/golf/tech related. But how many guys do you know that would be excited about a weather station? Actually, I know a few. Anyway, the point is, I wanted to find a cool gift for a friend, and the absolute perfect find was just at the corner of President Street and Third Avenue: Twig Terrariums.

At this unique studio, founded by┬áMichelle Inciarrano and Katy Maslow, they create beautiful little green worlds in all kinds of cool glass containers – vintage jars, kitchenware, delicate glass balls. Each terrarium comes with a miniature figure to create a one-of-a-kind scene. They make some of the figurines themselves. I was tempted to get a squarish jar with a guy drinking what looked like a beer while lounging on the prairie, but I ended up going with the lovely elderly couple.

If you’re the crafty type, they also have DIY kits that start at just $25, and workshops where you can bring your own glass container. There’s a lot to choose from at their studio and at their online store – they ship a lot of the terrariums anywhere in the world. And if you’re a dreamer, they can make a custom terrarium just for you.

Less ties and more terrariums, y’all!!
